Mister LGB - Coffee City Series - PARIS OLYMPICS update

As a coffee roastery we find that seasonality is one of the keys to a great fresh and consistent product. Approaching coffee as a fruit helps us understand how seasons work and what the impact is of the environment, soil, transportation and eventual delays that come with the delivery of the fruit.

In recent months we have experienced a significant rise in delays on green coffee. While we plan over 30+ different single origin coffees a year, a few of them have missed their date of arrival. Some with just a few days, due to hiccups in importing and/or unloading, others have more delay than we had planned for.
Planning such a volume of coffee makes it easy for us to shift around the release of certain coffees, for our blend coffees the puzzle is a bit more complex.
As per usual we travelled to Addis Ababa in March '24 to select a significant amount of coffees for our upcoming 'Ethiopia' season. A couple of beautiful washed and natural coffees designed to be released as Single Origin, but also about 120 bags of Grade 2 coffees with the intend to serve as a trusted base for our blend Mr. LGB.
We planned to release the Mr. LGB Paris Olympics with 50% Ethiopia Yirgacheffe GEDEB - but are unable to release this blend with that intended coffee for now. The container is delayed due to unforeseen circumstances (read: way to complex logistics) - and will arrive by mid August.
The good news: we have secured a replacement - BIFTU GUDINA. A well known name in the Ethiopian coffee scene and a coffee that we have been proud to work with for the past few year. We intend to replace the Gedeb with Biftu Gudina until our beloved Gedeb arrives.
As a single origin coffee among other taste notes: orange, red berries, plum, spring blossoms, candico sugar and a lingering and complex yellow fruit aftertaste.
- We pair the legendary Biftu Gudina with a brilliant new specialty lot from Guatemala from PEDRO RIGOBERTO LOPEZ.

Guatemala shows a lot of potential this year and one of the first Guatemalan coffees on the calendar is from PEDRO RIGOBERTO LOPEZ. We bought all bags from his Red Pache variety lot, which tastes sweet and has spectacular notes of popped chataigne, cumin and ginger.

So imagine all these cupping notes blended together and pulled into a small espresso shot, combined with milk or oat drink….. Let’s get the Paris Olympic Games started.

(and for the Gedeb lovers amongst you, just a little patience.....)
