2: Ethiopia Yirgacheffe CHELBESSA Grade 2 (11 points)
1: Ethiopia Guji HAMBELA WAMENA Anaerobic/Blueberry (12 points)
Conclusions: We have much more diversity in the espresso coffees than in the filter coffees.
Kenya had a disappointing harvest - for once.
Ethiopia was without any discussion the most favorable origin in 2021.
Fruity coffees first: At Caffenation be believe that coffee is fruit and this you can taste.
The raise of the naturals come to an end. Of course we still have plenty worth mentioning, but washed coffees have been overal more popular last year.
For espresso we don't see a good co-relationship with cupping scores. A good example is the CHELBESSA were grade 1 is cupping higher, but less body and flavors all together and therefor less popular on espresso than a grade 2.
For the first time ever an Anaerobic processed coffee winner. I think there's still a long way to go for this type of processing, but when done properly this method has a bright future.
And finally, it's hard for coffees roasted at the beginning of the year to score high in the ranks. Often people remember only what they had in their cup recently, but i'm sure all real coffee fans enjoy their Winter and Spring coffees as much as the Autumn ones. Cheers.
